Volunteering is the way!

By Jada Smith

For 95 years, members of our community have devoted their time and resources to making the Ozarks Region a better place. Not only today, but every day, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank every volunteer who has supported United Way Ozarks Region.

Your dedication is what makes our work possible. Because of your commitment to championing children and providing pathways out of poverty, our community continues to grow stronger.

One of our most impactful annual events, Day of Caring, continues to show just how much can be accomplished when our community comes together. In the last year alone, Day of Caring brought together more than 1,400 volunteers, completed 130 projects, partnered with 54 nonprofit organizations, and generated more than $220,000 in volunteer hour value.

We reached out to several prominent community members who have participated in United Way Day of Caring, to ask them one simple question: “Why do you volunteer?” Read on to hear their stories and what inspires them to give back.

“I volunteer for United Way’s Day of Caring because I know firsthand how much community support matters. Growing up in poverty showed me the difference compassion and access to resources can make in a person’s life. Day of Caring gives me the chance to give back, show up for others, and be the kind of support system I once needed myself. Seeing people come together to help their neighbors reminds me that hope and change start with action.”Brooklyn Soto, Aftermarket Product Manager, John Deer Reman

For me, volunteering on this day is a chance to see the immediate impact of our efforts. It’s also an opportunity for those of us in the corporate office to live out the O’Reilly culture in a very real and visible way. We often take on some of the more physical culture in a very real and visible way. We often take on some of the more physically demanding projects, knowing the work we do helps nonprofits focus their time and resources on the critical services they provide rather than maintaining facilities. At the end of the day, it’s not just about what we accomplish; it’s about working alongside others and feeling connected to something bigger than ourselves. That’s what makes it so rewarding and why I look forward to it every year.”Mariah Carel, Director Corporate Facilities and Services, O’Reilly Auto Parts

“I absolutely love how we come together as a community for the common good. With each of us doing a little, so much good can be accomplished. The connections that happen are amazing. We learn more about the wonderful service agencies in our community, and the impact on teamwork and culture for organizations that participate is remarkable.” Bill Hennessey, Community Volunteer

We are so proud of all we have accomplished together so far and look forward to seeing you all on June 18, 2026, for another amazing Day of Caring!
