United Way Ozarks Region’s 34th Annual Day of Caring took place on Thursday, June 18th. Volunteers from around the region stepped up to help support their neighbors and the nonprofit community that works to meet their needs.

More than 1,300 volunteers tackled 114 projects ranging from painting, to landscaping, to cleaning and everything in between. The day was not only an opportunity to give back, but a chance to connect with members of the nonprofit community and build relationships that will last for years to come.

Each year, the work done by volunteers adds up quickly saving area nonprofits many hours and thousands of dollars by completing tasks they may not have the time or capacity to tackle themselves. This year, in just 8 short hours, volunteers gave an estimated 5,225 hours of their time supporting area nonprofits with an estimated $188,850 worth of labor.
United Way Ozarks Region President & CEO Brandi VanAntwerp shared, “We are incredibly thankful for everyone who came out to serve their community this year. Your efforts show the meaningful impact we can make when we work together.”
By spending their time at organizations they may not be familiar with, volunteers also get the opportunity to learn more about the important work being done in their community.
Volunteer Grant Jones is just one example. “(I) had a great time working with the student team at the community gardens,” he shared. “(I) learned a lot about the garden and the initiatives it supports.”
Nonprofits, too, often find they make key connections that result in lifetime volunteers for their mission.
“SPS was an awesome organization to volunteer for,” said volunteer Tiffany Compler. “We came in with a goal and left with an impact. I am so grateful to be a part of this event and look forward to volunteering again next year!”

Thank you to everyone who stepped up to help this year, and to all our area nonprofit organizations who hosted projects. You are all a shining example of what it truly means to be a community.
UNITED IS THE WAY.
