Two prominent community champions – Brent Baldwin and Dr. Grenita Lathan – are co-chairing United Way of the Ozarks 2024-25 Community Campaign. The pair is heading a 16-person cabinet focused on encouraging donors to help United Way of the Ozarks (UWO) lead the way to brighter futures across Southwest Missouri. Their goal? Raise $2 million before March 31, 2025.

“We’re excited and thankful that so many high-caliber leaders are motivated to work on behalf of United Way,“ said Brandi VanAntwerp, president/CEO of the Springfield-based nonprofit that funds programs and promotes community engagement. “The more we raise, the more we can do locally to champion children and provide pathways out of poverty.” Currently, UWO funds 20 programs operated by 15 local nonprofits. That money comes from UWO’s Community Investment Fund, which is built by individual and corporate donations through the Community Campaign.

“United Way of the Ozarks uplifts children across our community, which is why I feel so connected to this campaign. I’ve seen the difference their work makes. Every donation helps build a better tomorrow, for all of us,” said Lathan, superintendent of Springfield Public Schools.

Baldwin adds, “Our United Way does important work no one else is doing. They take a strategic and inclusive view, they build connections and mobilize. I encourage everyone to participate so United Way can help all of us in the Ozarks experience a healthier and more stable life, to live up to our potential,” the Commerce Bank executive shared.

The cabinet began training on July 16. They’ll meet again on August 27, when UWO hosts its annual Community Campaign Kickoff event from 4-6 p.m. at Farmers Park Pavilion in Springfield. “I can’t wait to get together again, have fun and deliver for United Way of the Ozarks,” Lathan enthused.
